Hi Eliana.
The correct answer is arent I?
even if it looks weird and grammaticaly impossible, its the correct answer.
Regards,
Katia |

Am I not is also correct - but is more demonstrative and more often used in written language. If someone said something a bit dumb - I might answer - Im a teacher too, am I not?
In reality, arent I is wrong - even though many use it.

Hello Eliana,
I think its the second choice that is correct " I am a students, arent I?"
By the way A question tag is the "mini-question" at the end. A tag question is the whole sentence.
Hope Im right!!!!
Lets wait for more opinions.
Big hugs,

Hello again
Libertybelle, you are right " am I not ? " is correct, but I checked different websites. They assure that " arent I? " is correct and considered it a special case.
Just for clarifying things!!!!!!!!

We are always learning new things!
I guess this is the reason of being human beings and teachers.
Not to think we know everything but learn from others who like sharing their knowledge.
Have a nice day!
I hope I can see some reference books in order to revise this point.
Thanks.

Hello friends,
This is what I think. If we follow this reasoning:
You are a student, arent you? She is a student, isnt she? He was here, wasnt he? They were here, werent they?
Then the correct one would be:
I am a student, am I not?
It sounds better for me. Well, just my opinion...
Thanks, Stella

I have never seen "am I not?" as a tag question, but if you say it is eight, Id like to get more info, please.
As far as I know "..., arent I?" is an exception to the rule and the correct form.
Lets find the grammar, shall we?
