Hello. It s me again with my questions!
1. what is the difference between "help" and "help out"?
2.There is this activity in one of the books I teach which goes: a: They probably used to cook food every day. b: That means they made fires every day too. OR a: They didn t use to go to school every day. b: And they didn t do any homework either. My question is why is that " used to" is not used in sentences "b" and instead past simple is being used??? how can you decide whether to say "used to" or use "simple past"??
ooooh.I m confused! Thanks! |

I ll have a go at these! 1. Not clear cut - help is used in serious need, help out, when you just need a bit of assistance. You can use help when you just need a hand, but you wouldn t use help out when in serious need. 2. You don t actually need used to to imply repeated action in the past. So, they probably cooked food every day would be OK, too. Once you ve used a used to in the first sentence, you don t need to repeat it in successive sentences.
Hope this helps! |
