When teaching present continuous with YLs, we make colour-coded cards.
*A seperate card for each pronoun (I, you, he, she etc) (I use red coloured cardboard)
*A seperate card for am, is, are, -ing and not (Green cardboard)
*A seperate card for the verbs you want to practice (read, write, open etc) (yellow cardboard)
Then you can get the kids to play around with the cards.
E.g. you show a flashcard of a boy playing football and the kids form He is playing with their cards. (Also miming games)
Cards are great for teaching interrogative (Questions) and negative forms.
When a kid consistently forgets to add -ing to the verb, I get him/her to keep the -ing card on his desk to remind him/her - works wonders!
