Hello dear colleagues,

I need your help with this vocabulary exercise:

Fill in: burst, swept, shouted, washed, came

1. The waves .......... crashing onto the beach as the storm intensified.

2. Heavy rains caused the rivers to .................. their banks.

3. The strong winds ................ away everything as they passed through the town.

4. The bridge across the river has .................. away in the heavy floods.

I �d be grateful if you could explain your answers.

2. burst

3.swept

4. been washed /was washed

For no. 4, you need a passive because the bridge didn �t do the action.

That �s the right answer, but maybe you �ll get a better/fuller explanation!
