All you have to do just make few question strip what they did last week end. for example went to concert, got a perm, or bought new cd of your favorite singer. let them know little bit of rules of past simple and let them do conversation.. hope you find it al right.

Dear Melissa,

You can lead in by slowly drawing a stick figure and eliciting info from the ss about the guy

eg -  First draw a circle > ask what it is >put a smile in the circle > elicit   smile, happy> draw a body and short hair > elicit a man.Get ss to give the guy  a name and some possible adjectives about him. Dont write anything on the board at this stage , only his name. Now, draw money bags.elicit rich and happy.Ask -

Why is he rich? Elicit different possibilities: eg- CEO , inherited etc.. until u get to He is famous / important >>Why?Rub out money bags and draw a guitar---Elicit He is a pop singer .Ask-Do you know any other famous pop singers?Ss to think about lifestyle of popstarswhat they eat, drink, drive, do etc.. Make flash cards for  a Bottle - Ask-what do u think he drinks Champange, Evian water etc- DRILL: He drinks champagne

Audience- fans/ girlfriends- drill :he has many girlfriends

A sports car , maybe a Ferrari, hes got a red Ferrari

Holidays- exotic holidays   what about his house..Castle - he lives in a castle

 Etc

Now: Ask ss what are some problems u can encounter when u r rich and famous?

Show flash cards of the drugsDrill : He takes a lot of drugs

Draw a sad face and ask NOW???adj to describe him.Draw a jail around him

Why is he there?SS In pairs 5minutes Ss to discuss his probs in jail

Take flash cards again and ask what do u think he drinks now? Drives now? etc

Stick them up on W B as u finish drilling.Get ss to now:

Give u one sentence that describes how his life has changed from present simple to the past.eg;u point to the flash card and elicit

Starting in the past  to now with

He d---- lots of champagne and now he drinks water

Point to pics and try to  elicit the past form of drink and fill in the blanks.Do them all and then : tell them he is now dead coz he took too many drugs like Elvis.

Lead in to was and were and write the Structure on board :I, he , she , it - was ...etc

He was famous and rich

There were many girlfriends fans

He was in  jail He was on drugs

There were many unhappy fans when he died

His Ferrari was red
My ss love it every time it do it  and its a good recycle of present simple and a lead into the pas , so there is flow.
Take care, I hope you understand it . You can do any story , but remember to takeit from the present into the past. Enjoy it
Regards

 Hi Melissa,

Have a look at this site, there might be something you like.

Ive played match the telephone call, for want of a better name, quite successfully on a number of occasions. Ill have a look see if the original sheet is on a disk somewhere. But basically the phone call is split into two and printed. The students must read out the question eg. Hello is john in?   and the ss with the matching card ie. - No Im sorry hes gone (he went) fishing with his dad finally wakes up and reads it out. They then pr up and ask, or I prefer them to shout across the room, a made up question such as - Hey john how was the fishing yesterday? and "John" replies. - It was bla di bla did bla.

Mmmmmm!!!!!

I played with the cards in two teams. 1 team chose a person to ask and they also chose the person who answers from the other group. we counted points for correct sentences and then we played a memory game in pairs where they had to remembrer who answerd and what the answer was, so ther we had speaking listening reading and writing. and it was great fun!!!
I did not explain grammar at all and they coul use was and were perfectly.
Of course you know your students and you may create more sentences you think they will like.
