Hope for is active: you are hoping for something to happen e.g the president is hoping for peace. I am hoping for a diamond for Christmas. Hope of is more objective; there is hope of peace.
I m afraid this isn t very good - anybody else? |

Very good, Lynne, but one small addition:
Hope is a verb with "for" and a noun with "of".
Sometimes it can be a noun with "for", too, but not as often. There is hope for you after all!
