Hello everybody You know that in the Victorian age, children have a strict discipline. there is a saying which is " children should be seen and not heard". It s hardly explained . Can you explain what it means, please?I would be grateful for your reply. Thanks in advance Hussam |

People at that time thought that children had nothing to contribute to adult conversation, and were seen as an interruption, so they should be seen and not heard. I hope this helps. Bruce |

To my way of thinking it refers to children s behaviour. They should be seen not herd meaning they should be polite and behave well, not run around shouting, screaming and laughing loudly for instance.

Hi,
