							| In general  �Unless � can be replaced by  �If not �.  Translating your example: If not you don �t work hard .....  sounds silly, not?  As double negatives are usually avoided, you �d better not use it, unless you want to sound silly, which we all do at times. Meaning we do use the double negatives on purpose at times, i.e. I don �t know nothing about this issue. Hope this helps. Cheers. Peter |  5 Feb 2014
