Hi!
According to the Macmillan dictionary: |

As sarasantos mentioned, both blinds and curtains are window covers. However, blinds are composed of rigid or semi-rigid strips.
Horizontal blinds (the more common variety) are pulled from the top down, but vertical blinds are pulled across.
A shade is a continuous piece of material pulled down.
Curtains are lengths of fabric that cover the window.
Drapes are lengths of material that cover a window or French doors and go all the way to the floor.
I hope this answers your question about window treatments. |

I would only note that curtains can also reach to the floor (as in the theater; e.g. "curtain call").

Curtains are vertical and made of material/cloth and slide on a curtain rail. Window blinds are horizontal slats that raise and lower vertically, and have a tilting feature that enables them to block out more or less light.A curtain hangs over the window, a window blind hangs inside the frame of the window. Hope that helps. |

And Frank Sinatra s song My Way , with the opening lines, So now, the end is near, And so I face the final curtain, would not have been quite the same if he had had to face the final blind.
