article about the importance of extra teaching materials

Hi everybody,
I need some help and unfortunately- as quick as possible.
I asked the English department chair s for academic release time (due to some health problems) offering him to elaborate teaching material as the one on this web site. He agreed under the condition, that I give him a short written justification, stating why supplemental materials are beneficial for ESl learners supported by quotes from ESL articles. I already searched the internet for information, but havent been very successful.
Does anybody know about such articles?
Your help will be much appreciated.

I ve found several articles:
http://iteslj.org/Articles/Kitao-Materials.html http://www.eslbase.com/articles/three-mistakes http://www.professorjackrichards.com/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-using-instructional-materials-in-teaching-esl/ http://bit.ly/1wMnGqk http://www.eflpress.com/teacher/EFL_teacher.html (paragraphs 9 and 10) http://education.msu.edu/te/secondary/pdf/Designing-Lessons-for-Diverse-Learners.pdf
I hope that at least some of them will be useful. Have a nice day!

I ve written such materials and published them in two books: Warm-up activities. You can see some of them under my name Tajana Basic. As I had to write a sort of foreword to each of these books, I am sending you one in this letter and the other one in your mail as I can t insert the file here hoping that you can use some ideas.

To the Teacher
For all of you who have already used my first teachers resource book Warm-up Activities for Busy and Enthusiastic English Language Teachers, there are a lot more activities to be found in this new resource book. For those of you who have not, try to use these activities along with your core text-book.
These activities are prepared from a collection of e-mails and other texts that are circulating around the Internet. They are suitable for adult or secondary school students and can be a supplement to any text-book. Just because students are now quite advanced learners does not mean that they suddenly want things to become dry and academic. You will keep your students motivated by making their English classes as fun and dynamic as they were when they were low-level students.
The resource book is spiral bound and all activities come in A4 format so that you can use them with a minimum amount of preparation just copy the page and take it into class. It is divided into 11 units: Friendship, English Language, Business and Politics, Life and Death, Men and Women, Children, Parents and Teachers, Computers, From the Heart, Sayings and Quotes, Medicine and Jokes. Each unit contains several activities including jigsaw reading, reading with vocabulary exercises, fill-in exercises, role-play, guessing the ending, answering questions and discussions. There is an answer key with each activity.
Learning may be serious business, but that does not mean you cannot have a little fun along the way. Research shows humor can be used effectively as a strategy to increase student involvement and attention, as well as to painlessly disengage students from potentially confrontational situations. Effective teachers use humor in the classroom to motivate students to learn, enhance group cohesion, and defuse tense situations. Adopting a light, playful mindset helps establish a warm, safe learning environment.
A sense of humor is what holds things together when everything is falling apart. Without a sense of humor, the unexpected problems and challenges in life would become unbearable without a sense of humor, everyday life could become pretty boring. A sense of humor is a basic skill that needs to be nurtured and cultivated, and it can enliven any school subject. Classrooms in which laughter is welcome help bring learning to life (Dee Dickinson: Humor and the Multiple Intelligences). Watching students who enjoy listening to you, and hearing them laugh at your humor, is very rewarding.
Besides having fun, the aim of these activities is to expose students to a variety of challenging and interesting texts in which they can participate in discussions and role plays. You can expand these activities, or cut them short to meet the needs and interests of your students, and also to fit in your timetable.
Enjoy being a teacher!
