Is it possible to say.....?
|
Hi. I ve got a doubt. To answer the question How are you? can I say - I m serious.? Is there another word in British English (not serious) for that? Thanks a lot . Hugs Cátia |

No. I m serious means I am not joking. When you answer the question HOW ARE YOU?, you usually give information about your health or state of mind: e.g. Fine, thanks. or e.g. I don t feel well at all. I think I am seriously ill. |

If you need to specify that you are deeply or seriously thoughtful today, it s possible to say "I m in pensive mood". |

For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.

@ ninon 100: Wordsworth s poetic licence seems not to be for simple mortals ;-)

Well, isa2, we may all use poetic license, but this isn t poetry, so it doesn t apply. Bruce |
