How do you teach Listening?

Dear colleagues,

May I know how do you teach listening?
the official book I use  includes a lot of scripts without any audio files ...so I often try to read and ask my pupils to listen and   answer certain questions. But I am not satisfied about my performance.  sometimes I read a dialogue and turn it into monologue unconsciously.
I hope to hear from you some useful ideas.

www.esl-lab.com has native speaker listenings with online exercises.

www.eslpodcast.com has lots and lots of listenings with the scripts.  I make my own exercises from them.

I also use songs, youtube videos, movie excertps etc.

Hope that helps

Judging from my experience, doing listening tasks when students are READING scripts is a waste of time, a listening task should be done without any script! Even if students may  find it hard to understand everything at early stages.

As for the courses - there are many good books that provide a full course - with listening of course.

Oxford Solutions Series is one of my favourites at present.

Heres a cool ESL listening activity that you can do. You can watch that on video. Dictations are also good for listening. In my experience they work pretty well even with young energetic children. Heres how to do a basic dictation and here is a reading dictation.
