Hi there!

My dear colleagues how would you call a squirrel that flies an airplane - squirrel aviator or aviator squirrel or none!!!

I know it sounds strange, but it is for my husband s project!

Thanks in advance for enlighten me on this matter!!

Cheers,
Sara

In my opinion, a squirrel that flies an airplane should be called an aviator squirrel.

I agree with SoLuna.

I m not sure you can say any of these dear Sara! of course, our colleagues from English speaking countries can confirm or not what I m saying. But, on the one hand, the aviator is the old use of the word pilot and, on the other hand, it s a noun. I need to see the context in order to give a firm answer but isn t it possible to say the aviator was a squirrel? or the squirrel pilot? or the pilot was a squirrel?

I m sorry I can t be of great help. I could do better if I could see the sentence(s)...
Cheers!

An aviator squirrel one day,
Aviated up, up and away,
That squirrel could fly
High up in the sky,
A squirrel aviator! Well, I say!

Aviator squirrel.

As feline and canine (adjectives) are to cat and dog (nouns).
so is Petaurine to Flying Squirrel.

My suggestion: Petaurine Pilot

After reading all this, I think you would be safe with either one. In the end, I would probably go against the general consensus and say squirrel aviator (even though my first feeling, which is usually the right one is aviator squirrel) and I would ground it this way:

Wouldn t we say: "a woman firefighter" vs "a firefighter woman"?
