Hello I came across two explanations concering would rather and had better in reported speech . One says that are not changeable.According to another we have to use some verbs insted of them ,eg suggest, propose etc. Which explanation is correct ? thanks |

I would rather not answer this. He said that he would rather not answer this. You �d better not ask me again. He said that I �d better not ask him again. There �s not a problem with them in reported speech. You �re smart to check here, rather than believing what you read without questioning it. There is a lot of bad advice floating around. Bruce |
