Take your choice from:

to be [caught] between the devil and the deep blue sea
to be [caught] between a rock and a hard place
to be on the horns of a dilemma

All of these refer to being in a (very) difficult situation

"Between a rock and a hard place" is definitely how I �d say it as an American. :)
