Hot dogs are for the dogs! A little background on the saying
The expressions "for the dogs" and "going to the dogs" must have
originated in Asia-and most likely in a Muslim country where that
faithful animal has historically been held in rather low repute.1 Hence,
being consigned to the dogs was bad; it meant that you had not done
your "thing" well at all.
