This idiom comes from a standard deck of cards. 52 of the cards are in the suits: spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. The other two are the jokers. They are used as wild cards in many games, especially many versions of poker. Wild card means that they can be used to replace any card. For example, in poker, a joker can be used to make a pair of queens three of a kind instead. So, loosely, "the joker īs wild" means that anything can happen. |
