Hi,

if the person works at a school, I �d call him / her "counsellor". A social worker can work in other places, not only schools and socialist refers to politics.

In Australia we usually call this a School Counsellor if its primary or secondary school.
 
Social workers are generally used in adult contexts.
 
A socialist is completely different.
