Used to be

Hi everyone,

I just learned that this question is correct: "What used to be in the area where Fifth Avenue is now?". I was wondering if it is also OK to ask: "What did there use to be in the area where Fifth Avenue is now?".

Thanks in advance.

Cunlife, Is it really? Because to me it looks like the question to the subject, which is supposed to have direct word order.  Could you explain a bit more?
