The "going to" argument of being used for a preplanned event is correct, but if someone asked me, "When are they going to arrive?" I would answer, "They �ll arrive tomorrow." If I were making an announcement I would say either "going to" or �will � or "are arriving" |

Elena, in this case the correct tense is Present Continuous for future arrangements/ schedules. The trip was planned before and then we have the arrangements, therefore we �re talking about a schedule, something you know exactly when it �s going to happen. Don �t use "will". Cheers!!

As some have already said, it all depends on the context. They will arrive ... for a formal announcement of the situation. They are going to arrive .. for indicating, in a simple conversation, what the plan is. They are arriving ... for indicating what the schedule is. As with all continuous tenses, this construction looks at the process over time, rather than a simple, one-point event. They arrive ... for indicating what the schedule is, in a concise way Ah, English! Bruce |
