Word order

Hello! Dear friends, could you help me to understand if there is a mistake in the sentence? My children do their homework at the weekend very often. Is it ok to put "very often" after "at the weekend"? Thanks) |

I would rather say: My children very often do their homework at the weekend. |

The normal, most natural sounding word order is "My children very often do their homework at the weekend." However, it is possible to put VERY OFTEN at the end of the sentence, as in this situation: Q: The school does not require that your children do homework on the weekends, [does it]? A: Yes! My children do their homework on the weekend very often. It is a situation contrasting the answer with what was expected by the questioner.

I quite like it at the beginning, too. Very often, my children... Btw, British English is at the weekend.

It would be better to use the frequent adverb before the verb.Very often is placed as the other adverbs of frequency, so we can say: My children always .............. My children sometimes............... My children very often.............. |

Actually, that depends. Always works better before the verb. Sometimes works good before or after. Very often works better after the verb. It all depends on which frequency adverb you are using. |

Now if it were just the word often, it could be used before or after. |
