The infinitive of purpose

Dear colleagues, how to rewrite this sentence with the infinitive of purpose? I shouted as loud as I could, because I wanted them to hear me. Is this correct? I shouted as loud as I could for them to hear me. It sounds strange to me. What are other ways to express the sentence without changing the meaning except for the infinitive of purpose? Thank you for your help. Lenka |

According to this , this isn t the infinitive of purpose, because the subject of the main clause (I) is not the same as the doer of the action of the infinitive (them).
So, to use the infinitive of purpose, youd need a passive infinitive: I shouted as loud as I could in order to be heard. Bruce

Another possibility is : I shouted at them as loud as I could so that they could hear me , although it is not to infinitive of purpose. I shouted as loud as I could to be heard by them
To be heard by them I shouted as loud as I could |

Yes, Minka, "for them to hear me" is correct, just not the infinitive of purpose. "To be heard by them" is also not the infinitive of purpose, for the same reason. Bruce |
