A better choice - he īs not or rather he isn īt
|
Good day, dear colleagues! Summertime in my place of living gives me quite a lot of free time to reflect on language use :) So, I wonder what seems to be the norm or, to put it more right, a better use in English at present - "he īs not / she īs not / we īre not etc" or "he isn īt / she isn īt / we aren īt...". The question may appear a bit senseless, but I īm asking it as in a grammar book I īm reading there īs only one option presented. So I tend to think that the other is falling or has fallen into disuse. What would you say? Thank you! |

Hi niksailor, your place of living sounds nice:-) As to your question, both of those options are fine. I would say that probably, in writing, most people opt for īhe isn īt/we arenīt etc unless they stick to the full form. I īm not sure, though...

Thank you, cunliffe there seem to be no norms here and different people say differently, I guess :) |

Like Lynne, I think "isn īt" is more common than " īs not" Bruce |
