This is what I would say: We lost the match which was annoying. or We lost the match and that was annoying, |

Yes, Douglas is saying that if the match itself was annoying, then "that" is the correct choice, but that is definitely unlikely. As Lynne, showed, the comma is necessary. We lost the match, which was annoying. Bruce |

That = the match was annoying. It identifies the match (because there were many).
Which = losing was annoying. It identifies the cause of your feeling.
And, yes, the comma is definitely needed.
