I think a ratings system can be very useful for downloaders, for example on sites where you just get a brief description of a resource. However, on here, you can preview the whole thing, well, up to 10 pages or slides, so you don �t really need other people �s opinions in order to decide whether  you would find the resource useful. I agree that for contributors, nice comments are the ultimate accolade.
