What do diamonds do?

Dear colleagues,
please help me with my daughters homework.
The actress wore a _______ diamond ring on her finger.
Sparkling or Shining?

IMHO, either is acceptable, so the task is incorrect.
What would you say?

They sparkle! Sparkling is the answer. I love them, although I feel so guilty about that
Edit: There is something active about shining, as in the sun shines and something passive about sparkle, that is reflecting light.

How about this classic?

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now theres a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Lynne is right. Shining does not fit, but we could say "a shiny diamond".

...And Rhianna is guilty, too. Shine bright like a diamond..
I mean, you could say a diamond glows, radiates, glimmers, gleams, dazzles, twinkles, and they are all out there on good old google, but the word you are after is sparkle. In fact, rather like bubbly referring to Champagne and Prosecco (in my case), a synonym for a diamond is a sparkler.
I long for one, I dream about one, but I have resisted!  My husband thoroughly approves
Edit: Mind you, thats quite a nuanced question for homework, unless your daughter is 19 and at uniSmile
Edit edit: Just seen Marys comment. Yes, in theory a shiny diamond, but it sounds a bit strange... The diamond would be cabochon rather than faceted and faceted is what you want (well, what I want:-))))
Go for sparkling!
