I would tell a story using ideas of what we can and cant do.
Lisa is a mermaid. Lisa can swim really well and loves to swim with her family every day. One day, Lisa meets a human girl and they become friends. The girl can swim in the water, and can also walk on the land. Lisa wants to walk on the land, too, but she cant because she has a tail instead of legs. She gets a magic locket and turns into a human. Now she can walk on the land. She meets many birds. They can fly. Lisa also wants to fly, but she cant. The girl buys Lisa an airplane ticket and now Lisa can fly. Lisa misses her family, and wants to go home, but she cant yet because the airplane is in the air. Soon it lands and Lisa turns back into a mermaid and goes home. She is glad she can swim with her family again.
You can probably think of a story that your students would relate to. Then after telling it, ask the students about things that they can or cant do. Can you swim? Can you jump rope? Can you climb a tree? Can you breathe underwater?
Then you can sing the I am special song to the tune of Frere Jaque (Are you sleeping, Brother John).
I am special. I am special.
Yes, I am. Yes, I am.
No one else can ______ like me.
No one else can ______ like me.
I am special. I am special.
I am special. I am special.
Yes, I am. Yes, I am.
No one else can dance like me.
No one else can dance like me.
I am special. I am special.
Dance, pose, hop, etc. Use whatever verbs describe the talents of your students.
