Dear Colleagues,
Would you kindly help me with the following exercise??!

Add a main clause to each of the subordinate clauses:

1. __________________, which was already late.
2. __________________, for which I was grateful.
3. __________________ that lives in the next street?
4. ___________________ that sank in the Atlantic.
5. ___________________, which made me suspicious.
 6. ___________________, who lives next door.
7. ___________________, where the fire had damaged it.
8. ___________________, when the figure had disappeared.

1. The foggy condition delayed my flight, which was already late.

2. I bought my son a toy and he was delighted, for which I was grateful.

3. You cant cheat on me with a girl that lives in the next street.

4. A huge cargo ship sank in the Atlantic.

5. My pencil case was completely empty, which made me suspicious.

6. I dont even know who lives next door.

7.  Luckly I had no valuables stored where the fire damaged it.

8.  Eventually I stepped in, when the figure had disappeared.

Unfortunately, 6 and 7 dont work, because Heynowdos sentences dont have a comma, as the originals do.

6.  I havent met Samantha, who lives next door.

7.   We couldnt sit on one end of the sofa, where the fire had damaged it.

4 doesnt work, either, because Heynowdo added only a subject, not a main clause. Unfortunately, "sank in the Atlantic" isnt a subordinate clause, or any kind of clause, because it doesnt have a subject, so theres no answer for that one.

Are commas needed in these sentences?

I dont know the person who lives next door.

Luckily I had no valuables stored in the closet where the fire damaged it.

No, they arent needed, Mary, but the given sentences all have commas, except 3 and 4, so the completed sentences need to have commas.

I wonder whether the uploader forgot the commas in 3 and 4? Otherwise, they are just straightforward sentences.

3. You cheated on me again with beautiful Mary, that lives in the next street.
4. The Titanic, a famously unsinkable ship, sank in the Atlantic.

Thanks a lot

I did not forget the comma in 3. I forgot the question mark
It should be:
3. _______________________ that lives in the next street?

4. ______________________ that sank in the Atlantic

Thank you sooooo much!!

I see that you have added "that" to sentence 4, so it is now a subordinate clause, as it should be.

For 3, you can use
Do you know the doctor that lives in the next street?

4.  The Titanic was a ship that sank in the Atlantic. (to steal Lynnes idea)
