Dear friends,
I am looking for new ideas on how to teach the theme of plants and how they grow. Activities could also be about how to take care of plants.
Thanks

Hi Pinky, That is funny, I am doing that theme this week (I also did a workshop on this them last spring). I don t know how old your ss are but I am using the book The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle It is very simple but you can adapt it for older ss. It shows a seed being blown by the wind and all situations it has to overcome (getting eaten by birds, landing in the desert etc..) before landing on fertile soil and growing into a big sunflower. We then looked at seeds and I made a quiz for the kids to see if they could figure out which seed grew into which plant. (not as easy as it sounds) Then we made a flower pot with different herbs... kids decorate a pot and plant three different herbs in it. We then talked about what meals you use the herbs for, herbal remedies etc... The list is endless. Its a fantastic theme to get your teeth into. Have fun. xx Yeti |
