Gerund
|
Hi to all! I have recently received a task where I should write sentences using gerund. I also got a solution to this one that was as follows: I am sorry to inform you that you did not get the job. However, I cant see gerund here. Am I missing something?
Is there a difference between these two sentences:
1. She couldnt help showing her feelings.
2. She couldnt help but show her feelings?

Hi, again, Darija. You are right that the given sentence doesnt contain a gerund. The difference between your two sentences is that 1 contains the gerund "showing", while 2 contains the bare infinitive "show". The meanings of the two sentences are the same. Bruce |
