REDUCED RELATIVE CLAUSES

Hi there! I wonder why this sentence is incorrect and I can´t use a reduced relative sentence: "Katherine Herpburn is the actress HAVING WON the most Academy Awards in history" According to thr Key, the sentence is: "Katherine Herpburn is the actress who has won....... is there any reason so that the first sentence is not possible? Are there any rules to know when reduced relative clauses cant be applied? Thanks in advance! |

I think this only works when the original relative clause uses a continuous form of the verb (or a present simple with a non-state verb). The athlete who was winning the race suddenly got a hamstring injury --> The athlete winning the race suddenly got ... BUT The athlete who (had) won the race subsequently got a hamstring injury --> no change. However, you could change the order of the sentence to create a modifier at the beginning: Having won the most Academy Awards in history, Katherine Hepburn is an actress whose name is known throughout Hollywood. |
