The correct version is "Medicine and health are improving" because "medicine" and "health" are two separate nouns, not synonyms, and are therefore treated as a plural subject. "Medicine" generally refers to the field of medical science or the practice of treating illness, while "health" refers to the state of being free from illness or injury. Since they are two distinct concepts, the plural verb "are" is needed. However, when writing at speed, this kind of mistake is quite common among native speakers of English, even in very formal publications. |
