High Frequency Words

Hi people,

After looking at that great worksheet it has got me thinking.

Does anyone have any worksheets or games ideas for teaching the first 100 high frequency words?  The kids need to know how to recognise them when reading and to spell them correctly - I am running low on ideas.

Also I am looking for ideas for teaching the alphabet to a special needs child - he needs some activities he can do independently - while I am working with other groups.  I don t know where my brain has run to - but it is struggling to come up with any new ideas!

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Cheers
Vickiii

I teach first sixty high frequency words to my

six year olds.  I teach them three per week.

I print a page with these words in boxes for them

to colour, they don t until word is learnt.
Each child has a chain or key ring with these
words, printed and laminated, to last longer,
ringed through, for reference. In class I have a big
tree where to display the words for constant reminder
and frequent revision. You could make them hunt for
words in written passages. Write them and decorate
with a border. Lastly use in sentences.
Hope this helps.

Hi Vickii,

Try Googleing "teaching Dolch words" Or how to teach dolch / sight words". Youll find quite a bit on the subject, me thinks.....

Good luck and goodnight.

Dennis.
