The Diary Technique For Time management

Hello Teachers,

I was reading the other day about time management

I m not sure about schools in everybody s country .. But in my country we only have 40 minutes for each class

and a teacher would always feel like the time is running without making the best out of it

so I read about this technique, it s called "The Diary Technique" . It s suitable for new teachers.

what you should do BEFORE CLASS is draw yourself a table Like this one here :

Time

Spent on ?

09:00 - 09:05

09:05 - 09:10

09:10 - 09:15

09:15 - 09:20

09:20 - 09:25

09:25 - 09:30

IN CLASS : you write what you do in every 5 minutes. and you should have your own abbreviations so that you don t take time in writing.

Time

Spent on ?

09:00 - 09:05

Intro

09:05 - 09:10

Intro

09:10 - 09:15

Voc

09:15 - 09:20

Pronun

09:20 - 09:25

R + int

09:25 - 09:30

R + HW

after that you go home and write them back in the long form

intro = lesson introduction
voc = introducing new vocabulary
pronun = pronunciation practice
R = reading
int = interruption
HW = assigning new homework

you can add any abbreviation

anyways, you keep doing this for a week or so

then you revise you tables and know where did you spend more time at doing

it will help you to rememer not to spend more time than necessary at doing it

in the example above you can see that the teacher spent 10 minutes on the introduction which is too much (when it comes to a 40 minutes class)

so she will remember to spend only 5 minutes

it s very useful for new and trainee teachers

hope you like it. :)

hey alien boy

yes it is interesting thank you

but I wish people won t mix the Diary Technique with the lesson plan

because what you do in the Diary Technique is that you write what you did and not what you re going to do

the aim is to see where you go wrong or where you spend more time than necessary at doing so you avoid that next time

thanx for passing by alien boy :)
