I don t normally plug worksheets by anyone unless they are unusual AND great.
So...
life_line has uploaded a great little poetry collection (a work in progress!) which includes activities & definitions. There are poems for advanced students as well as one fun little poem that may suit beginners very well (I know my grade 3 s willl love it)
My little collection of English Poems - 9 pages!
Do read the comments on the page. If you download & use it, please give her some feedback about what you did, how you did it & what may have improved your use of the material.
Cheers, AB

Thank you alien boy for posting. I have downloaded and it is so wonderful. Thank you life_line!! Here is a little poem written by an uncle of mine. I learned it as a child.
The Vagabond Dreamer. (D.J.O Sullivan)
I dreamt last night as I lay asleep That I had ten-thousand bowmen to keep For I was the king of an ancient race Oh! the wine and the food in my palace!
But when I awoke feeling cold and sore My pillow... the step of a backstreet door I recalled my dream in the light of day I laughed aloud as I crept away.
Hope you like it.
Caroline.

If poetry is the topic today, you can add this to your collection : I wrote it myself for the topic holidays . Is it bad? And, by the way, do you think it is correct to say I felt bad ? badly would be more correct... am I right?
A TRIP
TO SPAIN
Last
year I went
On a trip to Spain
On a day with wind
And a lot of rain
I went
by plane
To get there faster
I met a girl
What a disaster!
Her
name was Mary
And she was Greek
Beautiful as a fairy
I gave her a sweet
How
happy she was!
She smiled at me
And I could almost see
the Land of Oz!
We
talked for hours
And in love I fell
I told her that
But she : all shell.
I
touched her cheeks
Then kissed her lips
But oh, bad dream,
She started to scream!
I said
Im sorry
But it was too late
She slapped my face
What a disgrace!
When
the plane landed
My cheek was red
She went away
And I felt bad!
The
tour of Spain
I spent in pain
Then I broke a bone
So I went home!

thanks life_line for contributing a verse to the site
"we dont read and write poetry
because its cute. We read and write poetry because were members of
the human race and the human race is filled with passion. And medicine,
law, business and engineering are necessary to stay in life, but
poetry, beauty, romance, love .. these are what we stay alive for. We
are here and life exists. The powerful games goes on and you may
contribute a verse."
(from "The Dead Poets Society" - film)btw, Caroline, i liked your choice ...
