Let īs break the ice
|
Hi,
I have a question about this phrase : Let īs break the ice
I know its meaning : īto relax a tensed situation
But I am wondering if we can use it in another meaning.
e.g. When we r very bored and we want to make something funny and intersting
Can we say here Let īs break the ice ?????????????????
Thanks in advance |

Break the ice means to do or to say something that makes people feel less shy or nervous in a social situation e. g. He told a few jokes to break the ice.

Break the ice has another meaning as well - completely unrelated to social situations.
When a class at school is the first to go swimming - you say īLets break the ice .
The broader sense of the term (in my opinion) is to go first at something to make it easier for others.

yeah, as everybody mentioned it means to say or do things to make someone less shy or nervouse
to break the whatever was there that is blocking communication maybe
you know what i mean ?
when someone is talking but the other person is shy and he can īt talk freely
the 1st person tend to throw jokes maybe just to have the other person talking
so that īs breaking the ice ..
but i don īt think it can be applied to your case |
