Please somebody take out of misery. I think this sentence is correct
LESLIE PROMISED MARTIN TO BRING HIS BOOK BACK
But I found no reference book that supports my thory

Normally I �d expect one of the following:
Leslie promised Martin that he/she (Leslie can be male or female) would bring his book back. Leslie made a promise to Martin that he/she would bring his book back. Leslie promised to bring Martin �s book back.
I �m off to bed, so won �t go into grammar now (it �s 2 am) & so will leave further discussion to my esteemed colleagues who are wider awake!

I agree with alien boy. Promise can be followed by an infinitive as in �I promise to tell you everything � but promise + object + infinitive (as in your example) is not used (same with offer). |
