I ve being writing a research work and so far I ve used word 2003 as a word processor only formating type of letter; size, paragraphs, first line entry and titles. I did not insert any page breaks as the text flows naturally on to the next page. The problem is that I need to insert page numbers now but NOT on the cover and table of content pages. I also wanted to use the i; ii;iii - option for acknowledgments and foreword and then the 1, 2, 3, etc. option for the chapters. The problem is I don t know how to do that. I ve tried inserting page break and other options in the insert box but numbers keep appearing on the cover and all other pages.
How is it done??? Please, help! |

Well, I have my menus in Spanish but I suppose it will be similar in English. You click on Insert - Page Numbers, you take off the tick from "number on the first page", then you click on "format" and there you have the number format to choose i,ii..., and below you have the option to choose the page you want to start from. I hope your options are similar to the ones in Spanish

thanks. I ve done that and the numbers still appear on the work cover sheet and it shouldn t; neither on the table of contents or index. And then from chapter 1 onwards I wanted to use numbers 1,2, etc and it doesn t let me; it changes the previous formats and everything appears on the cover as well. |

You are right, I ve tried myself. Check this, I think the problem is solved creating new sections in the document.

Well, mjotab is right.
You first have to put a mark in your document to tell your document that it is from that point on the numbering has to start. My word version is in Dutch. I ll try and help you.
Now you can insert a page number: click on insert , then pagenumber and then you choose the bottom left box. You click on the last choice at the bottom of that new box.
I hope this will be of any help.
