This is a regular action (often) and for such actions in the past we use Past Simple. |

We don �t usually use continuous with often. Often indicates a regular action and it is Past Simple in this very case. We can use Continuous with constantly, always when we mean repeated annoying actions: You �re constantly chatting on the phone. He is always complaning about everything. |
