It is true.  There are 3 ways to pronounce VASE.  I am not sure if there is an official rule, but I am from an English speaking Country and have spoke English all my life.  I have heard it pronounced 3 ways and none of them are wrong.  Vase can rhyme with face, faze, or saws.  There are other words we have more than one pronunciation for.  There is a song, �Let �s call the whole thing off � with some examples

I saw Pajamas the funny way.  Some people pronounce �H � with an A sound in front �Aych � and others pronounce it with an H in front �Haych �
