Yes, helper is fine.  You can also call them your Teacher s Assistant.

If you have a roster of designated roles that change weekly, you can use those titles e.g. Lunch Officer, Homework Collector, Whiteboard Cleaner, Clasroom Librarian, etc.

i would opt for the French-derived expression: "Class Representative" which i-- myself usually use..
Have a great time, Nabila! Smile

Dear Jayho,

thxxx that word was  the one that I was waiting for...

Because I ve always said assistants, and I have a colleague who told me that I was

mistaken, that it was just  helper.

That means that I can go on saying my assistants:)

I think that it sounds better, at least for me, our spanish translation sounds better, too.

Thx a lot to all of you ! Thx Abbes, the same to you :)

Assistants comes from assist which means to help/aid.  Therefore, they are called student helpers/ student aids/student assistants. YOU are right and your colleague is wrong. :)

In China at my University I teach at, there is always one student that is chosen by the rest of the class to be the "class monitor".  Their job is to keep a record of absent students, collect homework, assist me in class, etc.
