I īd need some suggestions
|
Good morning to everyone,
I have a little problem and I wonder if you could give me any suggestions.
I teach English to a 9-year-olg girl who doesn īt know the English and alphabet and as a consequence spelling.
Could you give me some tips of how to make her learn it? I don īt know what else to do.
Thanks so much in advance, have a nice day! |

the quickest and most effective way is to combine flashcards and word cards - use any alphabet song (dora the explorer, sesame street, barney...) with colourful cards which have letters on them and play games with the cards - have her read 3-5 aloud with you, then have her close her eyes, you hide one, she opens her eyes and says which letter is missing... then add words on colourful papers - put them on the table, say a word and have her find it among the word cards... it goes pretty fast, because kids like to use their senses, and we are all visual types... when you play memory, have pairs of pictures and words (a pair are not two same pictures, but a pic of an object and the word of that object)...soon you īll be playing fill-in the missing letter and any variation of hangman, and then dictations, etc. just keep it colourful and fun, she īll soon get it... |

That īs a really good advice from anitarobi! There are lots of those flashcards and words cards on british coincil site. And there is words/picture online memory games there. Also it īs good to combine words into short phrases or words combiations. For example: a pen, a red pen, a black pen, an old pen a new pen. You can write two or three lines of such combination with one noun. Then Use same pattern with a different noun, for example ruler. So it goes like this: a ruler, a red ruler, a black ruler and so on. |

Hi, In the United States, there are basic words that a child is expected to know at the end of each grade level. Hope this link helps.
