Blonde???

Please help me...
I`m confused because I`ve found in one worksheet here...

She`s got blonde hair

Is that ok?
I guess the correct way is

She is blonde.   OR
She has got blond hair

What`s the correct form?

I would use : Im blonde, rather than Ive got blond/e hair.
But Im not a native speaker, so .....

Hi Diana,

I had actually thought your question was about the contraction of "she s", not how blond was spelled. If you were really just asking about spelling then you can ignore the rest of this...

She s is  a contraction for both "she is" and "she has"

She s got blonde hair is correct because it means She has got blonde hair (like you wrote).

The thing is, we tend to say when speaking "She s got blonde hair" but write "She has got blonde hair" so both are okay.

Hope this was helpful Smile

But whats the verb we should use? Be or have?

As a native speaker, both are used and, as far as I m aware are correct. So, both she is blonde and she has got blond(e) hair are acceptable, and are used equally.  I must say, I ve never ever heard blondie used, though, except perhaps as a nickname.  It certainly isn t British English.

As a native Californian, I agree with littlecityblue.

Blondie is a name from a comic strip (Blondie and Dagwood) and "Blondie" is also sometimes used when some one is trying to "talk down" to somebody:  "Don"t ask me, ask "Blondie" over there.  She s the genious" (spoken sarcastically).

As a Canadian... I use both BUT to me (for some reason) "blonde" is for a girl and "blond" is used for a guy...  It might be the French mixed in with that logic... *shrugs*

well, I have just arrived, so... some more ashes in the fire..

Blond and fair...?
What would you say? she has got fair   /  blond hair ?
Are they the same, or just similar?

She has fair hair.
She is fair haired.
She has blonde hair.
She is a blonde.
She is blonde.
but...
There is strawberry blonde, platinum blonde etc. for different shades of light coloured hair.

Blonde or fair? Much the same, but Mariyn Monroe is definitely blonde not fair haired.

Maybe it s something to do with who and the context. What do others think?
