Battleship (for the classroom)
Here´s a printable version of the popular game Battleship with an ESL twist (using vocabulary words ex: "coffee+4). Students have fun while thinking of English words they know, like the game scattergories. IMPORTANT: Please read the following rules. 1) Players need to place their fleet in the defensive grid. They do this by writing down the letters, ex: S=submarine. Then player 1, must start and make the attack by calling out a vocabulary word and the number. For example: If player one starts, he can say "apple+1". Player 2, the opponent, must yell HIT or MISSED. Player 1 should mark this down on his offensive grid. If Player 2, has been HIT, he should write H on his attacked ship. If the ship has been completely destroyed, he can yell out YOU SUNK MY _____. You can put these comments on the back of the sheet/flash card. As the teacher, you can also choose the type of words they use, depending on the level. Therefore you can choose categories such as: food, transport, verbs, countries, adjectives, household items, etc etc. HAVE FUN! I strongly suggest you plastify and then hand out non-permanent markers.
