Verb game cards
These cards could be used for a variety of games but I have used them recently to practice forming simple past sentences, negative sentences and questions.
It is based on the game ´fish/old maid´. The aim of the game is to get the most groups of 4 matching cards.
To get cards a student must ask another student a past tense question using the name and verb on the card, ´Did Mike listen to music last night?´
If the student has a card with Mike on it they reply, ´yes, Mike listened to music...´ and hand over the card(s).
If the student doesn´t have the card they reply, ´no, Mike didn´t listen to music...´ and the student picks a card off the pile.
It can seem quite complicated to students at first but as soon as they ´steal´ a card or have a card ´stolen´ from them they soon get very interested! If the student uses the past tense incorrectly then I don´t let them take the card.
You will need 4 copies of each card, preferably laminated or on card. The two sheets here were for 2 games (2 groups of 7 in my class) If you were playing as a whole class I would only use half or the game would go all day!
