comparisons
Itīs an activity that gives your sts the chance to compare animals, objects, people, places, leisure activities using the comparative and the superlative forms.Cut the ws into 3 sections A-B-C then cut each section into cards.Make your sts work in groups of three-four.
Ask the sts to write one word belonging to the category on the card on the back of each card, for example, animal:lion, leisure activity: reading... The groups should now shuffle their cards together and spread them out on the table with the category heading face up and the words they have written on the back face down. In their groups, sts take it in turns to turn over two cards of the same category and to make a comparison between the two words they have turned over. If the words are for example lion-frog they might come out with sentences like: A lion is bigger/more dangerous than a frog/A frog can swim better than a lion....
If the students turns over two identical words, they should make a superlative sentence:
for example lion-lion.... The lion is one of the most beautiful animals in Africa.
The activity goes on until all the cards have been used. The student who has the most cards by the end of the activity is the winner. My students just love this activity as you give them the chance to speak more independently and they need to use a large variety of adjectives!!!!
