No Offense Intended - Relative Clauses - Social Offense and Correctness (2pages)
An article on social offense which students complete by choosing the correct relative pronoun - WHO/WHICH/WHEN/WHERE/WHOSE/THAT. It discusses an award-winning childrenīs book based on The Three Little Pigs which was unfairly criticised for potentially offending builders and muslims.Starts off with a multiple choice exercise to introduce the topic, and leads to discussions about social offense and political correctness, sensitivity, offending others and all sorts of social problems such as racism, sexism, ageism etc.
The 2nd page has four short article summaries (modern perceptions of traditional fairy tales, gender-neutral language, racism in schools and political slogans at the olympics), a synonym match and opinion discussion.
This is an upgraded version of one of my older worksheets, which I have since deleted.
