I did this to review parts of speech at Christmas time but Iīve also done it for motherīs day, and we sent them home decorated as cards. Students brainstormed a list of words about christmas/mothers, then sorted them into the right category (noun, verb, adjective) then made a shape poem with them. I printed some simple Christmas/motherīs day shapes off the web and they wrote their words around that. Older students could make their own shapes. Also good for many themes: summer, sports, easter, school, etc. The kids got to review parts of speech, then enjoy decorating their poem. Poems were also posted around the room. Enjoy!
