Capitalization Test
Always capitalize the North, South, East, West, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, & Southeast, etc. when it is talking about a region or area of land. Do not capitalize north, south, east, or west when it is talking about a compass direction. Capitalize names of religions and religious groups, God and other deities, names of religious books, first, last, and important words of book, movie, and magazine titles, names of companies, titles of specific people, names of cities and states, continents, names of rivers & lakes, names of mountains, mountain ranges, days of the week, months of the year, countries, languages, nationalities, the word “I,”names, and the first word in a sentence. Capitalize family relationship names when you can substitute the person’s actual name or it used as a title. DO NOT capitalize seasons. spring, summer, fall, or winter. DO NOT capitalize words like summer school, fall break, spring break, etc. Capitalize the names of roads, streets, avenues, courts, way, etc. when writing an address. (Continue capitalizing cities and states and their abbreviations) Do not capitalize the word road, street, avenue, courts, way, etc. when it is not NAMING a specific one.
