Picture Dictation
This activity provides practice on: numbers, quantity and colours.
Give a copy to the kids and tell them to watch the picture carefully to find all the things in the garden. Ask what can you see?/What is there in the garden?/What time of the year is it?, etc.
After the children have named all the objects, focus on quantities: How many (butterflies) can you see? Three.
Ask the children to colour the picture in the way they want and then describe the elements in the garden.
Alternatively, describe the picture using the colour of your choice while the children paint the things according to your description. E.g.
In this beautiful garden there are three red flowers, two blue flowers, and two yellow flowers. There are five birds, three blue birds and two yellow birds. I can see two pink butterflies.
When they have finished colouring the elements, ask them:
Are all the animals painted?/How many coloured (butterflies) have you got?, etc./How many animals are not coloured?
